Burgundy: the most complex wine region in the world. Many people say that you’ll start your wine journey elsewhere but always end it in Burgundy, where you could spend decades trying to figure out the nuance of the place. In this class, we’ll discuss the main things you need to know to get a handle on this region. Although the prices have climbed (wines for this class will definitely cost more than the average — at least US$25 per bottle) and availability has shrunk, this region is still one of the greats of the wine world. Our journey will take us through the five sections of Burgundy and we will get into pretty dorky detail about each. We’ll try wines from:
- Chablis
- Côte du Nuits (Pinot Noir)
- Côte du Beaune (Chardonnay or Pinot Noir — your choice)
- Côte Chalonnaise (Pinot Noir)
- Mâconnais
Note: This is a Focus Class, which means we will not cover the basics. I recommend that you take one of the overview classes before you take a Focus Class so you are comfortable with the format and ready for the dorky information imparted in this session.
