ALERT: This at a UK/EU friendly time! Please note it is a DAYTIME class for US/Canadian participants.
This class comes on the heels my trip with a group of Patrons to Tuscany. It will be fresh in my mind and a great chance to learn new things straight after my travels!
Tuscany is a treasure trove of fine wine but not all of it is created equal. It seems like a cliché, but nearly every red wine is considered a great wine of Italy and of the world. To truly understand Tuscan wine, there is much to learn about this incredible place — the history, the culture, the land, the food, and the people influence each wine and make a difference in your preferences for each style. In addition, 80% of wine in Tuscany is red and all the famed wines are variations on a theme — they are based on clones of Sangiovese. Because of that, this class is not just a study of an iconic place but also a study of the Sangiovese grape.
In this Tuscan exploration, we’ll cover the one famed white of the region — Vernaccia di San Gimignano, and then cover the great wines from Chianti to Vino Nobile to Brunello to Super Tuscans. We’ll learn the differences between the Sangiovese-based wines, and discuss some of the more off-the-beaten path wines you should know about and seek out.
Note: This is a Focus Class, which means we will not cover the basics. I recommend that you take one of the overview classes before you take a Focus Class so you are comfortable with the format and ready for the dorky information imparted in this session.
