California makes the majority of wine in the United States. Some is fantastic, and some not so much.
In this class, we’ll discuss the wine regions of California and the specialty of each. We’ll explore five regions in depth (Napa, Sonoma, Paso Robles, Santa Barbara, Sierra Foothills), delve into what makes a great California wine, and help you understand what is worth the splurge and what may not be. You’ll learn the importance of sub-region, producer style, and cues on the label that may tip you off as to what you may get in the bottle (marketing is king in CA!!!). This class will set you on path of finding California wines that suit your style, and ensure that you get far more hits than misses when you shop for these gems.
We will taste:
- Sonoma Chardonnay
- Santa Barbara Pinot Noir
- Paso Robles red blend
- Napa Cabernet Sauvignon
- Sierra Foothills Zinfandel
(We will cover Mendocino but the wines can be hard to find so we won’t be tasting)
