More about this class
Volcanic soil represents less than 1% of the earth’s soil so the fact that there are prominent wine regions with this as the dominant dirt is pretty remarkable. Volcanic wines grow on basalt (hardened lava), pumice, and volcanic sands. In this very focused and dorky class, we’ll taste through wines whose grapes grew on soils filled with remnants of past volcanic eruptions. We’ll talk about what makes these wines unique and track the similarities between them.
We will taste and review wines from:
- Greece: Santorini
- Hungary: Tokaji
- Italy: Vesuvius, Mount Etna
- Spain: Canary Islands
This is a very terroir-focused and somewhat science-y class, so if those are the kinds of podcasts and wine topics you like, this is the class for you!
